Chipping Norton is a lively town which is situated eighteen miles north of Oxford.
The town has a population of around six thousand people. It owns much of its prosperity and wealth to the trading merchants who lived here in the past. Now, it has a wide variety of restaurants, shops and places to be enjoyed.
The market square is lined with a number of stone houses and coach inns. Chipping Norton means a market in the north of the town and at one time in its history it was well known for its markets and fairs.
Nowadays there is a weekly market which is held here every Wednesday and a Mop Fair in the month of September. Agriculture is still important here and various industries e.g. a brewery, tannery, iron foundry and glove making factory were later set up in the region.
