The Western Wall which dates back to the Second Temple period, is a holy place located in Jerusalem. Sometimes also referred to as the Wailing Wall, it is said that the Jews often visit the site to express grieve over the destruction of the Holy Temple.
The Wall has 45 stone layers, 28 above ground level with the rest below. The visible section of the wall is a construction of massive stones, each weighing from two to eight tons approximately. In Judaism, the Western Wall is considered the only remaining trace of Herod’s Temple. It has become a place of pilgrimage, especially for Jews.
Among the walls that constitute the Temple Mount, Western Wall is believed to possess divine powers granted by the Holy of Holies, therefore, a prayer said at the Wall is truly beneficial. Many Jews follow the practice of praying for 40 consecutive days at the Western Wall for this reason.
