It is one of the most surprising cities of the world with many diversities
and contrasts. Jerusalem offers an harmonious mixture of old and new, holy and
material, pure nature and beautiful architecture.
Modern Jerusalem is divided in two parts: West Jerusalem, which has been part
of the state of Israel since the country’s institution of 1948, and East
Jerusalem which belonged to Jordan from 1948 to 1967 when it was officially
annexed by Israel.
West Jerusalem is the is the widespread Jewish part of the city including the
modern center of the city and is oriented to growth and innovation of the city
having restaurants, cafes and shops. East Jerusalem in contrast is predominantly
Arab. There are street markets instead of shopping centers and reminder of political
conflicts are still visible.
