A quaint example of true Mauritian living is Rose Hill, the third largest town of Mauritius and the capital of the Lower Plaine Wilhems district. Rose Hill had another separate township called Beau Bassin, but the increasing island population resulted in it being merged into a single township.
Temperatures in Rose Hill vary between 12°C–22°C in the winter and 20°C–30°C in summer. There is high humidity in the area, albeit it is drier in comparison to the eastern regions of the country.
Rose Hill is home to an estimated 100,000 residents; most belong to diverse ethnic groups, thus making the town a blend of different cultures. Apart from being Mauritius’ largest residential town with plenty of luxurious properties, it is also a major commercial centre after the country’s capital Port Louis.
